White Lines... I really do not know what makes Twilight less objectionable to Christian viewers. Perhaps that that Saga has been 'divorced' from the usual association between vampires and demonic deals (eternal 'life' at a high price...), especially with the 'vegetarian' Cullen family of vampires. Also, no wand-waving magic. That's all I can come up with...

I haven't gotten into the Twilight Series.
Seems geared to teenagers.

I guess I'm an Anne Rice fan..
I have the The Vampire Chronicles, and have read them several times. I find the charactors complex and fascinating, along with the story lines.
The movie "Interview with the Vampire" kept fairly close to the book.

i hate to sound like i'm stirring the pot, but it doesn't seem like the same Christian animosity toward the Harry Potter series has been voiced against Twilight. I think in either case there are elements of creatures who draw their power from dark, unholy sources, and both popular series are marketed to kids.

What makes Twilight less objectionable?

Anyone who is thinking of seeing either of the Twilight Saga movies - PLEASE read the books first. They're thick books, but an easy read. While Meyer isn't a literary giant, this was some of the best escapist fiction I've read in a good while. Although Bella (as well as Edward) can come across as thick as a brick, these books weren't written with adults in mind, but younger readers. It was nice to remember what breathlessness and bosom-heaving felt like once those hormones started surging! The movie adapted from the first book was pretty bad. Low budget, wrong director for the job, and frankly, the developers had NO idea of the impact these books were having on school-aged girls, MANY of whom were making their boyfriends read the books so they'd be more like Edward! Nearly all the characters moved like planks. The second movie is much better, although I've seen still better adaptations from the written word. If you don't read the books, don't bother with the first movie - you will be totally clueless, and nothing will make any sense. Read the books or see the movies for the entertainment value or for reaching back to those first-love thrills of your own youth. If you're looking for highbrow entertainment or a college termpaper, you'll need to look elsewhere.
