Wednesday’s open line
I’ve been wracking my brain for about half an hour, and I still don’t have an open line. How about some reader input?
The floor is yours. Dance!

Any one visit the fair today? I haven’t really seen it advertised much, I was wondering if they from are going to have a day that kids can purchase an arm band to ride the rides. Don’t worry about the open line Mrs. Yount got you covered for the day. Thanks for this home in henderson website. I moved from Henderson but am well informed of what’s going on.

How about those SVHS Raiders? Those ladies played some good volleyball lastnight. The Lady Raiders won against Southern Guilford that WERE 25-0, now SG is
25-1 thanks to those Lady Raiders (18-11). The best of luck to those young ladies as they travel to Chapel Hill tomorrow night. And also a BIG shout out goes to Coach Turner. Thanks for a great season.

I got one of those fair inserts from the Dispatch earlier this month and on the back it says a kiddie ride handstamp is tonight for $10, and regular handstamps are $15.00 on Wednesday and Thursday. Handstamps are $20 on Friday unless you go after 10 and it’s $12. On Wednesday and Thursday kids get in free until 7 with a coupon. Saturday, if you take kids, rides from 10-4 are a dollar each.
And I actually saw it advertised on tv I think on channel 13.

Recently, I received a call from a person that asked, “Why are you always so negative about Henderson?”
LET ME MAKE THIS PERFECTLY CLEAR – I AM NOT NEGATIVE ABOUT HENDERSON!
Henderson, N. C. has more potential than any other small town on the eastern seaboard of the United States. Four major highways, I 85, US 1, US 158, NC 39 pass through Henderson. Kerr Lake, one of the finest recreational lakes in the system and Gaston Lake, a pristine controlled level lake, are just miles from it. A medium rated airport and freight train service top off our gifts.
What I am negative about is the lack of forward looking leadership in our elected officials and the continued reliance on the significant few to “make things better” for the insignificant many. Fast food resturants and a isolated liquor store just “ain’t going to cut it”.
As concerned citizens, we should be ashamed of the list of projects presented to the Golden Leaf Foundation. Although I tried, I was not successful.
(Before anyone says it – Yes I made a formal proposal – implement a pilot program to study the feasibility of combining city and county governments – to the Foundation but was told it did not meet the guidelines. When I suggested that the Foundation grant funds to help Henderson and Vance County develop a new Solid Waste Plan, I was told that the Foundation charter required it to work with non-profits and existing government programs.)
In response to my caller, until the citizens of Henderson accept that we have major problems that are preventing our city from reaching its full potential AND take corrective action, negative statements will not only be necessary but, ongoing!
Warm and Fuzzy’s are not going to lower the crime rate, decrease our dependance on a “welfare based economy”, lower the tax rate, improve the graduation of educated students from our high schools, lower the teen pregnacy rate …!
Identifying and taking firm and immediate action to eliminate the root cause(s) of our problems, regardless of how painful, is the only course of action we can benefit from on a long term basis.
I spoke out at the Tea Party, ran for office, post on HiH, call in to WIZS’s Town Talk, call and write elected officials at the local, state and federal level as well as talk when anyone will listen – WHAT HAVE YOU DONE LATELY?
Remember, we deserve what we are willing to accept

And, Mr. Edwards, I want to say….THANK YOU!!!

Mr. Edwards makes a good point. Henderson indeed has potential to thrive but it will not happen until more citizens decide to take a stand and quit hiding behind the status quo. One voice is not enough. One person can begin a crusade but it takes many to support it. It is not easy to stand up for one’s beliefs. There are always those too ready to throw stones and try to silence the truth and muddy it up with personal attacks. Freedom is NOT free, you have to earn it. Step out of your comfort zone before you find yourselves unable to leave your house out of fear of the hooligans; and I’m not just talking about the hoods in the streets.

there are too many people today that make excuses for failure, lay blame on anything to excuse irresponsibility, and allow standards to decline into mediocrity instead of striving for excellence..
when, IMO, striving for excellence is the only way out of the situation we’re in.
