Farmer’s market could come to north Henderson

Filed under: News,Quick hits — Jason Feingold, Ed. @ 12:01 am

During the Monday meeting of the Vance County Board of Commissioners, County Manager Jerry Ayscue informed members that an application in the amount of $750,000 was submitted on September 4, 2009 to the Tobacco Trust Fund to finance a farmer’s market facility in Vance County.

Later in the meeting, after a closed session, commissioners voted unanimously to enter into a 180-day option for four acres of property on Norlina Road for up to seven acres for the market, contingent on grant funds being obtained for that purpose.

  4. I think this is the property that was the location of the old Highway Patrol Station, adjacent to the Vance Rescue Squad. Part of the property that used to be North Henderson School. Good location for a farmers market. Now if we only had some vegetable farmers.

  6. interesting:you seem to know something about everything, why don’t you know where North Henderson is? It used to be predominantly a white area until the Hispanic population took over about 5-6 years ago. Not many of the “old timers” are still around Hight/Walter/Railroad streets either due to their families getting them out or just dying off. I have walked a many a mile along those railroad tracks in North Henderson. One of my fondest memories was the pool room at B.T. Ayscue’s old blue cinder block building. I saw probably some of the best foosball players in the world in that little building. Ah………those were the days!!!

  7. I know where North Henderson is, Waldo. Give me a break. I just wondered WHERE in North Henderson it would be.

Seems like a strange place to put it, IMO.

  8. There is a man from Wise that sells veggies on Dabney Drive, and he is ALWAYS busy. Seems like that part of the town would bring more money. Lots of the CC crowd won’t drive to North Henderson!

  9. what difference is it to you where they put it? You wouldn’t fit in over in the North Henderson area. Kinda like a sore thumb(sticking out)!! You stay over in the country club area where “your” type people reside!

  10. The man on Dabney Drive isn’t from Wise. Do you think you know everything because it’s obvious that you don’t. The “man” selling produce on Dabney Drive is the “man” that used to run Stop-N-Go on Andrews Ave. Just in case you are wondering, his name is Mr. King.
