Monday’s open line
Tonight brings us to the swearing-in of the fourth Henderson City Council since I began covering that body in 2005. This is the first time that the change hasn’t been…dramatic.
City councils, like any other aggregates of humans, have personalities that are distinct from their constituent members. We wonder what the future will bring.
Here’s your open line.

It’s difficult to be optimistic for any length of time when we have the current leadership. One foolish move after another, wasteful spending.

Our Council is the biggest joke around. Henderson doesn’t have a chance of survival.
Thank you Sam and the “new direction.” You have the ones on there that you want. Are you proud?

And, I wish Sara the very best as a new member. It is ashame that she is only one.
However, after the last election fiasco, I do believe that citizens will take more of an interest in what is going on and ask questions and attend the meetings. Of course, citizens can’t be in the back room!

I winder if any of the City Council members read the News and Observer write up about the on going saga regarding the feasco going on down the road in Roanoke Rapids regarding there adventure with a performing arts theater/Country Music Hall, or what ever they are trying to make it into today. Perhaps we should thank our lucky stars that in Vance county we do not have sutch a Facility for this new Henderson City Council to have to worry about how to operate it profitably. Thanks for small blessings.

Oh, I have heard.
Will be so glad that D. Bernard is gone – no more texting, scratching his neck, acting like he he bored beyond belief. D. Bernard – you are a DISGRACE to the city of Henderson. Good-bye and good-riddance.

and what do you know? he didn’t even bother to show up and they were giving him some type of “post election” plaque or something. Classy! I heard that the Mayor almost broke his neck when he came into Chamber Quarters and saw Sam and George and he made a “mad dash” to “glad hand” them! What a Joke for a Mayor and somebody please tell “big mama” a.k.a. mee to SPEAK UP so the public can hear what she has to say. No matter how stupid or useless what she has to say may be!

Not showing up was Alston’s best deed yet. He’s a whupped pup these days.

Maybe the ceremony should be re-named “swearing at”.

To number 7. Most of us know that she is a big mama, but she’s a pretty mama. Show your face and stop being so jealous. Keep sitting back acting stupid.

Who voted in favor of Mary Emma Evans as Mayor Pro Tem?

Several weeks ago, on this blog, someone commented about the Town Talk program on WIZS being a joke, boring and filled with senseless laughing. WIZS Radio and its programming provide a tremendous amount of information to this community and its citizens daily. Without it, Henderson and Vance County would truly suffer. In the early 50′s, I watched my parents enjoy listening to WIZS. It became a important part of my life. I met my husband, a great broadcaster, in the WIZS Radio station building in the 60′s, and we still look back on that day with pleasure. Everyday, the radio in our home is turned on, and our family listens to WIZS for the morning news, Town Talk, Tradio, Sports Mahem and the numerous community announcements, local advertisements and great music all through the day, as well as in the car. All of the staff there are ready to help and receptive to anyone’s suggestions or comments. I don’t know how I would personally be informed or know of hometown events happening at the time, if I was listening to WIZS! Listening to my husband broadcast for years, I often told him I could tell by his voice that he was smiling. Well, listening to Dan, George, Bill, Glenn, all of them laughing…I feel that’s their smile..which we can only hear, over the airwaves, by a laugh! Their programs are interesting and informative. John Rose would be very proud of what that station has accomplished and continues to do as it strives to be the best it can be in a small market, continually shining under the leadership of John Charles…his son does a wonderful job. Thank you, WIZS Radio Station, for being a huge part of my life and …for always being there for my enjoyment! They, at the station, make life just a little bit more fun…just listen, you might agree!

I agree…I think they work hard to keep things together, and put on decent shows..
can’t be perfect all the time..
it isn’t easy coming up with discussion ideas every day..
and I don’t think they are a joke..
just some of the callers are.

according to the new post about the swearing in ceremony..Davis remains as Mayor Pro-Tem..
George Daye’s motion for MEE to be Mayor Pro-Tem failed.
that’s really weird..someone close to Daye told me he couldn’t stand MEE..
Hmmm…what’s up with that?
I think I know.
