Butterfield to visit Vance County Aug. 10
According to an email from Vance County Board of Commissioners Clerk Kelly Grissom, Congressman G.K. Butterfield will be visiting for a photo op regarding grant funding that has been awarded to the county through USDA Rural Development for the county-wide water project.
Butterfield will appear in the Commissioners’ Room on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. The Commissioners’ Room is located in the County Administration Building, 122 Young Street in Henderson, North Carolina.
The appearance is not for any new funding, but rather for funding that has already been awarded.

Anybody know if the County has anything to put in these pipes yet?

I guess it will be a long time before we see him again if we have to wait for him to do something we need or want.

Perhaps Mr. Butterfield will bring a $6000 government hammer and the final nail for county wide water. Hope he doesn’t bring a glass!

I remember Jerry Ayscue being on WIZS a few years ago saying that there would be county wide water ONLY IF 80% OR MORE CITIZENS signed up for it. How fast they change their little minds.

I think it’s time for some “new blood” in the county manager’s seat. The final straw for me was the hiding of information concerning the infamous “bank bag”. How backwards of a county when they deposit such large sums of $$ using the custodian? Not to say custodians are crooks or less than anyone else, but come on. The county manager’s feet should have been held to the fire a little more on that issue for sure.

No kidding, Election Time. Too much nefarious activity happens in the county and city. Ever notice how related the employees in different departments are? Nepotism ranks in Vance and Henderson. Even the school staff system is full of relatives. I mean, really, we need new blood at all levels. Friends of friends and family relatives doesn’t mean they are competent. There are many obvious examples of misplaced favor and trust. I only vote for outsiders if I can’t vote on local intelligence and local wise leadership. Mrs. Coffey prevailed because she has a greater world view than Henderson. Gupton, Yount and Harper got shafted but they’ll be back. Cream rises.

cynic-I think coffey got elected b/c people were tired of the bad publicity that alston brought on regarding his tax issue. I understand she has had some medical issues recently but she hasn’t done exactly as much as I would have liked her to thus far. i.e. Joint Ventures
I hope she has sense enough to know that if she becomes one of the “puppets” she will enjoy only 1 term on the council. She also did the same thing that hughes did before getting elected; she came on HiH almost daily with promises, etc. but once she got into office she seems to have forgotten how she got there. If anyone does talk to her; ask her why she didn’t PUSH the Joint Ventures faster like she promised? I think it is going to be looked at in April of 2011? Way too long! C’mon coffey; the folks at HiH helped put you in alston’s seat. Just remember that their are lots of people who would love for you to be back in the audience instead of around the horseshoe! Only time will tell if she will step up and do some of the things she said she would. tick..tick…tick….tick…tick…tick…tic…tic..ti…ti…t…t..
